How To Start a Home-Based Food Business

Your friends and family are still talking about the delicious dessert you brought to the last get-together. They say you should be selling these delightful goodies. Honestly, you have thought about turning your passion into a business but need help figuring out where to start. And let's face it: searching online only gives you the top five tips, not real-life applications.

Solution: Allow me to save you hours of research with my guide to opening a home-based business written by someone who was once in your shoes. I will walk you through everything you need to know to prepare for your first selling event.

Believe it or not, I'm a simple girl from Fairbanks, Alaska, and my business journey began with a carrot. Yep, that's right, a carrot. I purchased a twenty-five-pound bag of carrots from my local farmer's market and made carrot cupcakes for a work function. Those dozen cupcakes turned into my first order. I soon realized that my business idea of baked goods was no longer sustainable due to my tiny oven at home. Imagine an easy-baked oven meets shooting for the moon business plan.  Ditching the easy-baked oven, I pulled out family recipes that I could make that didn’t involve an oven.  That's when my chocolate and confection business was born (and didn't require an oven). I grew my business from a vendor at a farmer's market to a brick-and-mortar store. So, I have been where you are, and I wish I had a guide like this when I started.
